It is of the LORD's mercies that
we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not Lamentations 3:22
In a world wherein the uncertainties
are more than the certainties, there is a need to appreciate the mercies of the
Lord. If not for the mercies of the Lord, we would have been consumed. We are
all witnesses to the many tragedies that have befallen the world in recent
years. The earthquakes, the different Middle East uprisings, the insurgencies
in Nigeria, the floods, the road accidents, the rail accidents, plane crashes
amongst others but Through
God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
Psalm 108:13.
Our lives have experienced mercies in the following ways
and I would want us to reflect on it:
1. God
made us victorious: We have been victorious through divine help and aid. We
have been victorious in coming into our own land and we have been victorious in
having a building of our own. We appreciate God in all but we still anticipate having
much more victory. We won’t stop to ask for God’s mercy.
2.
God made his way prevail: God has shown us
how much he loves us. He made us know that “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither
are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. Isaiah 55:8. Who are we to
say it is not the love of Christ for our church. We tried to get somewhere for
the church site but when God was ready, he got us somewhere befitting,
somewhere bigger and he expects us to conquer nations for him.
3. God
favoured us: This is seen in the life of Jesus himself And Jesus increased in wisdom
and stature and in favour with God and man Luke 2: 52. Divine Mercy Baptist Church has receive And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour
with God and man the mercies of the Lord as such, God is showing us favour,
from the mother church, the community, the members and everyone who hears our
story wants to identify with us.
Things that might have
conquered the church include:
1. Sin: Shall we continue in
sin that grace may abound. Jesus paid the price, his grace is sufficient
for us. We should not forget to keep watch on sin. Sin is a distraction to God’s
operation, sin is the barrier between man and God, sin is a show-stopper of God’s
benevolence. Such sin like greed, pride about growth amongst others
2. Lack of support: Support from
the mother church, support of church members etc. We have to know that these
are the things that slow down the work of God.
Finally, at a time like this,
we need to reflect soberly and know that the essence of the church is still in
the book of Matthew 28: 18-20. We also need to know that we expected to
judiciously maximize the mercies of God by presenting ourselves as living
sacrifices Romans 12:1, Watch
and pray, that ye enter not into temptation Mathew 26:41, Watch ye, stand fast in the
faith to meet the Lord in the air: and
so shall we ever be with the Lord., quit you like men, be strong. I
Corinthians 16:31, we are also enjoined to rightly dividing the word of truth 2
Timothy 2:15 and other crucial instructions from the scriptures.
At this time of anniversary, we should all look forward to
make God’s mercy lead us on in such a way that we would be prepared to join our
Saviour in the air at his coming. 1 Thessalonians 4:17.
